Sue Lindley, 92, beloved mother, grandmother and community leader of Columbus, MS, formerly of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Anderson-Baptist Hospital in Meridian, MS. There will be a memorial service held later. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Sue Donaldson Lindley was born on August 22, 1932, in Northome, Minnesota, Sue was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mae Hyland Donaldson. She graduated from the University of Washington State with a degree in nursing and went on to serve her country in the U.S. Army as part of Company B Battalion. After her military service, she returned to Washington State where she dedicated herself to nursing and caring for others.
Later in life, after raising her children, Sue became an active and devoted member of the Artesia, Mississippi community. Her passion for public service led her to city government and politics, where she was elected and served as Mayor of Artesia for many years. Known for her dedication and tireless efforts, Sue organized fundraisers and worked to provide for the needs of her town. She and her husband, Clyde Lindley, also owned and operated Artesia Hardware, a cornerstone of the community.
Sue was a faithful member of Artesia Baptist Church, and, in 1992, she and Clyde relocated to Mountain View, Arkansas. There, she continued her legacy of service as a board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Sue and Clyde were enthusiastic supporters of the annual Mountain View Bean Festival, where they were known for preparing numerous cast iron pots of beans for the beloved community event. She had the honor of serving as grand marshal of the festival parade. Sue loved the simple joys of life — tending her flowers, watching birds, caring for animals, and gardening at her beautiful mountaintop home. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Clyde Lindley; her daughter, Vickie Ann Lindley; her sister, Norma Cabot; and her brother, Tommy Donaldson.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Donna Pounders (Cecil) of Caledonia, MS; Deborah Holmes of Memphis, TN; Wesley Lindley (Barbara) of Pearl River, LA; and Darrell Holmes of California, also her Grandchildren are Charlie Lindley (April), Josh Lindley, Alicia (Byron) Harris, Jennifer (Derrick) McBride and Stephanie (Tanner) Herring; her great-grandchildren: Parker, Avarie, Josie, and Charlee Ann Harris; Tatum, Madison, Harper, Georgia and Cambri McBride; Lincoln and Scarlett Herring, Macy and Marlee Lindley. She is also survived by her brother, Harry Donaldson of Mizpah, MN, along with several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Sue will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the communities she served. Her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
