Monday, March 20th, Pastor Michael John Butterfield entered his eternal rest with his Redeemer. A worship service of praise to God will be held Thursday. Visitation will be at 10 am at Macon Presbyterian Church with a worship service to follow at 11am.
May God be glorified in life and in death.
Michael John Butterfield was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Eldred
Marshall Butterfield and Mary Catherine Butterfield (Penn), of
Strawberry, AR. His childhood years were spent in Honolulu and
Memphis, TN.
His second birth took place in 1981 as a response to the preaching of
Billy Graham and through the influence of friends. Michael met his
wife Barbara Annette Lewis at the Bible College of Swansea, Wales.
They met in 1984 and were married on July 18, 1987. It was at college
where he experienced his theological reformation and became a
devout Calvinist and prominent member of the Pentagonal Calvinist
Society.
Through various setbacks, trials, and the raising of 5 children, he was
ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America in 2011.
His second and final call was at Macon Presbyterian Church in Macon,
Mississippi. He always sought to faithfully serve his Lord and pastor
the people he had been called to serve. Michael had a passion in
serving the community and bringing the Gospel to lost souls. He was
a faithful husband, son, father, brother, and friend. His final day was
spent in service to the Church and the denomination he loved.
Michael was preceded in death by his father on April 1, 1996, and is
survived by his wife Barbara, mother Mary Butterfield, sister Monica
Thomas, nephew Matthew (wife Sabrina) Thomas, and children
Katherine Cartwright (husband Taylor), Hannah Cartwright (husband
Travis), Megan, Michael, and Cameron, along with 5 grandchildren –
Joshua, Aubrey, Logan, Knox, and Lillie. The family wishes to express
their gratitude for the outpouring of
faithful support from other family and friends.
