Martha Dacus Swann

Mrs. Martha Dacus Swann, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, August 14, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle-Columbus, MS. Friends and family are invited to attend her graveside service on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. at X Prairie Cemetery, Macon, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MS Baptist Children’s Home, 118 Lowe Rd., Laurel, MS 39443. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Martha Dacus Swann was born on February 7, 1939, in Grenada, MS to the late Grady Lee and Minnie Mae Hill Dacus. She was one of three girls. Martha was a graduate of Winona High School, Winona, MS and received her bachelor's degree in education at Delta State University. She married Porter Richard Swann, Jr. and they made their home in Macon, MS. She worked alongside of her husband on their family farm and later in their retail hardware store.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband and sister Dot Threlkeld. 

Martha is survived by her son, Richard (Tamara) Swann of Carterville, Ill; daughter, Minae McOsker of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Rebecca Macdonald (Carrick), Philip Swann, Porter Swann, Liam McOsker, and Hannah McOsker; great granddaughter, Vivian Macdonald; and sister, Gloria Cupples.
