Laura Jean Clark passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 at her residence in Columbus, MS. A graveside service was held Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Butler Cemetery in Shuqualak, MS with Pastor Charles Eubanks officiating. Memorials may be made to Butler Cemetery Fund, c/o Willis Jones, 991 Johnny Higginbotham Rd, Shuqualak, MS 39361. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
Laura Jean Mize Clark was born on June 13, 1949 to the late Charles R. and Maudie C. Woods Mize in Macon, MS. She attended school in Macon. Laura’s father died when she was young and Laura helped her mother operate her store, Mize Grocery, located at the depot. On 10-29-1966, Laura married Billy Clark. She was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and a self-taught piano player. She worked in retail at TWL store and later helped her husband with his auto repair business. Laura worked as a librarian at Shuqualak Library. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the River Church in Columbus, MS. Laura’s hobbies were sewing, quilting, needle work and reading. She preceded in death by her parents, brother: William Clyde Mize and son-in-law: John C Gauntt.
Those left to mourn her passing are her loving husband: Billy Clark of Columbus, MS; a son: Billy R. Clark of Columbus, MS; daughter: Amy Gaunt Fincher of Macon, MS; granddaughters: Lena Dawkins (Derek), Elizabeth Nicole Estes (Chad), Anna Leigh Clark, grandsons: Patrick Gauntt (Jalie), and Benjamin Reed Clark; 3 great-grandsons: Clark Dawkins, Luke Dawkins and Emerson Estes; one sister: JoAnn Bartlett of Toomsuba and one brother: Charles Mize of Bowling Green, KY.
