Jerry Tyson Wilson, 71, passed away at Greenbriar at the Altamont, in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. A graveside burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Macon, MS will be announced at a later time with Cockrell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jerry was born in Macon, Mississippi on April 17, 1954, to the late Betty Marie Garrison Wilson and Billy Wilson. He was the grandson of the late Brazzie Mae Welch and Jerimiah Thomas Garrison and the late Sarah Tyson and Lyle John Wilson. As a teenager, Jerry started working at Noxubee General Hospital where he worked for 13 years and then he worked 21 years for The City of Macon until he became disabled in 2006. After his father’s death in 2006, Jerry and his mother moved to Birmingham, Alabama in January 2007, where they were members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. While in Macon, he was a member and served as a deacon at Macon Presbyterian church. Jerry loved his church (both in Macon and Birmingham), his family and friends. He never met a stranger and would talk your ear off. He was an avid Mississippi State fan and after moving to Birmingham, he would even wear his MSU Bulldog t-shirt to Samford Bulldog games. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother-in-law, Ed McIntosh. He is survived by his two sisters: Carol Ann McIntosh, Dunwoody, Georgia and Sarah Frances Wilson, Birmingham, Alabama, his aunt, Mary Wilson Johnson, Cornelius, NC as well as numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 2200 Briarwood Way, Birmingham, Alabama 35243 or to Macon Presbyterian Church, PO Box 424, Macon, Mississippi 39341 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
