Mr. James Britten Moore III (Snooky), formerly of Macon, MS., passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, September 30, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS with Brother Russell Mord officiating. Interment will follow in Soule Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 – 11 a.m. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

James Britten Moore III was born in Macon, MS, on 6/28/1938 in a dogtrot cabin down the road from McLeod Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church to the late James Britten Moore Jr. and Lena Enzor Moore. His family moved to town in 1944. He graduated from Macon High School in 1956 and East MS Junior College in 1958.

In August of 1958, he became the assistant manager of the Noxubee County Co-op and held the position until it closed in 1992. With the co-op closing, he worked at the Macon Feed Mill from 1993 until he retired in 2007.

James married the love of his life Maralyn Faye Waid on 8/18/1968 at the Brooksville United Methodist Church. During their marriage they welcomed two daughters Ann and Jennifer. He loved and cherished his family until the day he died.

Besides his family, McLeod Chapel Church was one of the constants in James’s life. He grew up in the church, and beginning in 1968, accepted the leadership roles of Secretary/Treasurer and Elder; he remained dedicated to these duties until March 2023 when he resigned. His love and dedication to the church community continued to grow over time as new generations inhabited the small country church. When he moved to Columbus, MS in March 2024, one of the things he missed the most was his church family.

James had many hobbies and interests. He was a loyal Mississippi State University fan who enjoyed attending games, watching them on TV, and even listening to them on the radio. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, and reading. He loved hunting, especially with his brother-in-law, the late Bobby Waid. James would even make his own cedar turkey calls. He also loved westerns and spent many hours reading western novels and watching western movies on TV. One of his favorite authors in this genre was Louis L`Amour.

James was a resident of Trinity Assisted Living from April 2025 until September 2025. His family wishes to thank the staff for taking care of him these last several months. They would also like to thank Legacy Hospice for the care and kindness they have showed towards James, his late wife, and the rest of the family during the last several years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister: Nelda Faye Moore (infant), and his wife Maralyn Faye (Waid) Moore. Survivors include two daughters Ann

Robertson (Robby) and Jennifer Moore. His nieces and nephew include Pam Persons (Bobby), Stephanie Agnew (Robbie), Allyson Tappan (Rick), Edna Campbell (Rich), and Jay Waid (Dale).

Pallbearers will be Jay Waid, John Hines, Ernie Moore, David Moore, Wallace Cade, Jason Mitchener, Gary Moore, and Jacky Triplett. Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Boykin, John Cade, Donnie Lee, & Nick Cade.
