James Lamar Reed, 84, of Shuqualak, MS passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, November 3, 2025. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church, in Shuqualak, MS. Interment will follow in Butler Cemetery, Shuqualak, MS. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, from 1-2 p.m. Memorials may be made to Soul Harbor Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 474, Shuqualak, MS 39361. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
James Lamar Reed was born in Noxubee County, MS to Willie Randolph and Gladys Eaves Reed on February 2, 1941. He attended Shuqualak High School. In 1960, Lamar married Margaret Robbins and in1964 he moved his family to Detroit, Michigan to pursue new employment. In 1969, he and his family moved back to Shuqualak, MS where he began his career in the logging/trucking business. After he retired, he enjoyed fishing and could not get enough of it. He was so successful in his hobby that he was named “The Crappie Man” by his friends. The most important things in his life were his family and his church. He was a deacon at Soul Habor Pentecostal Church and was heavily involved in all church activities. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret Reed; his son Randy Reed and grandson Benjamin Reed.
Mr. Reed’s survivors include his son Ken (Pam) Reed of Columbus; brothers Earl Reed of Shuqualak, MS and Roger Reed of Detroit, MI; four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
