Hazel Eaves Merritt

Hazel Marie Eaves Merritt born on January 8, 1928 in Electric Mills to Mary Rogers Eaves and Monroe Eaves. She grew up and lived in her longtime home on Shuqualak Road. Her family helped to start and attended Macedonia Methodist (Community) Church where her interment will be on June 28, 2025. She passed away at home in Elysian Fields, Texas after a lengthy battle with health issues on February 5, 2025.Memorials may be made to Macedonia Cemetery Fund. 

Hazel graduated from school in Shuqualak and had an Associates Degree from East Mississippi Junior (Community) College. She worked as a secretary, housewife, business owner of several restaurants and truck stops in Poplarville, Mississippi and Brooksville and later as a cashier at Piggly Wiggly in Shuqualak.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry Ford Merritt, two sons, David Wayne Merritt and Samuel Darwin Merritt, a sister, Lovis Eaves Dees and her husband, Bobby Dees, and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon(Raymond) Higginbotham, grandsons Christopher Darwin(Dana) Merritt, Chris(Leah) Higginbotham and two granddaughters Brandi(Alan) Krajewski and Bridget Turner; .Great grandchildren: Dustin Kyle Beason, Blake Austin Merritt, ,Kaleigh Marie Merritt, Allie Brooke Merritt, Jaxon Troy Merritt, Preston Higginbotham, Payton Higginbotham Lilly Higginbotham, Taylor (Braden) Estes, Katie (Cage) Palmer ,Lindsey Krajewski And numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
