He loved God, family, friends, dogs, the country and life. He lived life fully and fought hard to overcome several illnesses and injuries over the past five years. Finally, after his valiant battle with cancer and dementia, Garvin Glynn (Bubba) Fraley passed away on September 22, 2022, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. He was 67.
Bubba was born on December 3, 1954, in Macon, MS, to Garvin Erastus (G.E.) and Annie Laura Triplett Fraley. He was the third of three siblings, born 10 minutes after his twin sister, Laura Lynn.
Bubba attended school in Macon, and at an early age entered the US Marine Corps. Corporal Fraley served in Sicily as an admiral’s aide during the Vietnam Era and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the service he returned to Macon for a short while and then moved to Bay City, TX, in the 1970s to work in construction with family. He married and became the father of three devoted children.
In the 1980s, Bubba moved to Atlanta where he worked as a manager in a large commercial industry. While in Atlanta, he enjoyed watching his children grow, cheering them on at ballgames and school events.
After retiring due to health issues, Bubba moved back to Noxubee County in the 1990s and settled in the Yellow Creek community in the country home of his maternal grandparents. He loved the outdoors and this provided the ideal place for him to rest, visit with friends and family, hunt, and raise his dogs. Many fun hunts and cookouts were enjoyed by Bubba, his family and his friends during these years.
Bubba loved people, and, like his dad, thought Noxubee County was truly blessed by God. He never met a stranger and his pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He had many stories to tell of his adventurous life (and it was quite the adventure), stories that his family and friends will continue to enjoy in years to come over a beer or two.
Bubba was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by sons Dustyn and Anthony Fraley of Lumberton, TX, daughter Rhonda Marie Payne of Abiline, TX, grandchildren Emerson Fraley, Sophie Young and Hunter Payne, twin sister Lynn Fraley Laughlin (David) or Madison, MS, sister Marsha Fraley Bond of Jackson, MS, 7 nieces and nephews, his dog Girl, and devoted caretaker Rachel Richards Jenkins, along with his extended family and many dear friends. He was loved by many and will be missed sorely.
The family would especially like to thank the Yellow Creek community, the staff at Kosciusko Veterans Home and caregivers at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland for the continued love, support and care he was given over the past five years. He was truly blessed.
