Dot Smith Phillips

Mrs. Dot Smith Phillips, 83, of Macon, MS., passed away at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, MS on Monday September 22, 2025. A graveside service is planned for Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, MS at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38805. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Dorothy Smith was born on October 29,1941 in Noxubee County, MS to the late Wade Hampton and Winnie Bell (nee Stiles) Smith. She was a graduate of Macon High School and East Mississippi Junior College. She was an administrative assistant throughout her working life and retired from Mississippi State University. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always devoted to her family and to doing all she could for them. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed vegetable- and flower gardening and also exploring the Noxubee Refuge near Brooksville, MS. In her younger years she enjoyed reading and cross-stitching. The family would like to recognize the staff of both Trinity Place Retirement Community in Columbus, MS and the Noxubee County Nursing Home in Macon for their wonderful care, love and friendship. They all held a very special place in Mrs. Dot’s heart. Mrs. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and one daughter: Lisa Simmons.

Dot is survived by her son: Mark (Anita) Phillips of Starkville, MS; two nieces, Mandy Hartel and Myra Logan (Glenn); son-in-law: George Simmons; four grandchildren: Erika Phillips, Zachary Phillips (Krista), Kaitlyn (Brian) Harlow, Jared Simmons (Aleey); four great grandchildren: Jace Phillips, Micah Phillips, Maddie Mae Phillips, and Lanie Horn; great nieces and nephews: Marianna Mitchell (Chris), Macy Stokes (Josh),Melynn Presley (Michael) Kasey Logan, Carrie Mitchell (Tristan); great -great nieces and nephews: John Michael, Tucker, Ryleigh, Drake, Shelby Kate, Lila, Rowan, and Reign.
