Dorrotha (Dee) Rigdon, 69, of Columbus, MS formerly of Meridian, MS, passed away on June 9, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle in Columbus. Her graveside service will be held on Monday, June 14, at 11:00 A.M. at Whitehead Cemetery in Winston County with Bro Bill Ross officiating. There will be no public visitation. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Dorrotha D. Rigdon (known to her family and friends as Dee) was born on February 24,1952 to the late Joe W. and Gladys K. Whitehead in Hollandale, MS. She grew up in Macon, MS after high school she went to cosmetology school to become a hairdresser. She had her own business in Meridian for many years. Dee eventually sold her shop and began working for Parker and Associates Insurance, a job that she held until her retirement.
Born into a large family, Dee learned early to enjoy being with her family and friends and how to have fun with them. She loved to harass her family members to get a good laugh on them. She enjoyed playing cards and would play as long as she could keep anyone in the game. Dee was an accomplished poet and enjoyed writing poems to her family about their lives and relationships, especially on birthdays and other important occasions. These poems became treasured keepsakes for her family. She also loved to listen to Gospel music whenever she could. Dee was preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors include two brothers: Billy Whitehead (Betty) of Macon and Willie Whitehead (Linda) of Jackson as well as her sisters: Marie Reedy of Meridian, Anna Jean Roberts (Ray) of Hattiesburg; Martha Moore (Steve) of Ethelsville, AL and Myra Denton (Stanley) of Macon. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
