Danny Swanson

Danny Swanson, 68, passed away on July 29, 2025, at Brookwood Medical Center in Homewood, AL. A funeral service is planned for Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Cornerstone Community Church, 44072 Hwy 14, Macon, MS 39341. at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Ruskin Clay officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church sanctuary from 2-4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 728, Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Daniel Lawrence Swanson was born on October 12, 1956, to Charles Franklin Swanson and the late Patricia Ann Bannon Swanson in Attica, Indiana. Danny attended Seeger High School in West Lebanon, Indiana. In 1973, he and his family moved to Macon, MS to pursue farming interests. In 1975, Danny graduated from Central Academy in Macon. During his high school years, Danny was a tuba and French horn player in the high school band and also played basketball.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp where he served for four years. During his service, he made many lifelong friends who he referred to as his “jar head friends”. Danny also had many loyal friends from high school that remained his friends throughout his life.

When he returned home from the Marines, Danny began working with his dad and siblings on the farm. He went on to hold various positions including equipment operator at Outdoor Technologies and Buchanan Lumber, Emergency Medical Tech in Winston County, and for Tem’s Grocery. Danny was a soloist in a band called “Hard Labor”. He was an entertainer, who was liked by everyone he was around. He was well read and knew all about history and he had excellent an memory. One of the most important things Danny did was being his dad’s caregiver for the last two years, giving him excellent care. During this time, he and his dad had time to rebuild their relationship. Danny will be forever missed by his beloved family and friends. Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Pat Swanson and infant sister, Jeanette Susanne Swanson.

Danny is survived by his father, Charles Swanson, Eutaw, Al, a daughter, Elizabeth Wright, Memphis, TN., sister, Sally Robbins (Larry), Macon, MS, two brothers, Bruce Swanson, (Sherri), Kennedy, AL and Steve Swanson (Rhonda), Cochrane, AL and several nieces and nephews several close friends.
