Charles Franklin Swanson was born in Newtown, IN on January 21, 1930, to Roy McCord and Flossie Emma Fink Swanson. Charles was known to his family and friends as “Bud”. Charles was a 1948 graduate of Montmorenci High School. He was faithful to attend most of his high school reunions and was the last living classmate. Growing up, he worked with his Dad on the family farm. On July 25, 1954, Charles married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Bannon. Soon after their marriage, Charles entered the U.S. Army serving during the post war in Germany where he served for two years. When he returned home, he went back to farming, started a family, and also went to Auctioneering school. In 1973, he and his family moved to Macon, MS. where he continued to farm, and in 1986, he and his wife moved to the Forkland, Alabama area, eventually making their home in Eutaw, AL.

His faith in the Lord Was especially important to him, and he demonstrated that in many ways throughout his life. He attended church faithfully until his declining health made it difficult.

One of his great joys, and his family’s, was hosting several Labor Day barbecues at their farm in Prairie Point, MS. Many friends, family, and members of the community would come to enjoy this day, and many still share fond memories of those great times.

In their later years, Charles and Pat thoroughly enjoyed traveling every fall to various Midwestern states where he would compete in cornhusking competitions. Growing up, He actually spent a lot of time harvesting corn this way. He was very competitive in the sport and eventually got two of his children, and two of his grandchildren involved in the competitions as well.Another thing he and his wife enjoyed doing was making their own homemade ice cream. Their business was called “SOOOO Good Ice Cream”. They sold their ice cream at auctions, festivals, and other special events.

Charles’ hobbies included playing the guitar, golfing, and restoring/showing antique equipment. Charles loved his wife, children, grands and great-grands dearly.
