Carol J. Wright

Mrs. Carol J. Wright, 78, of Macon, MS, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, MS. A memorial service is planned for Monday, October 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Cooksville Methodist Church,1500 Cooksville Rd., Macon, MS 39341. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cooksville Cemetery Fund, 2356 Cooksville Rd., Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of the arrangements.

Carol Joyce Wood Wright was born in Carrollton, MS on September 10, 1946, to the late James Richard and Wilma Bertilene Bishop Wood. She attended high school in Memphis, TN. She was a talented artist by trade, and she eventually graduated from an art university in New Orleans, LA. Soon after this, she opened a shop in Mississippi where she had her own pet grooming business. Her passion as an artist was for painting portraits, wildlife and animals. She was especially well known for painting scenes on turkey feathers. Carol also completed her court reporting certificate while she was living in Virginia. Later, while working at Columbus Air Force Base, Carol worked in medical coding and court reporting. After retirement, Carol began selling her paintings and sculptures. Carol was a member of Cooksville Methodist Church and of the Art Guild in Jackson, MS. Carol enjoyed going to the beach whenever she could. Carol was known for taking care of everyone, having taken care of her siblings from an early age, and this caring spirit was not confined just to humans as she was known for nursing sick animals back in good health. As a result, Carol was well known to have “pets,” such as squirrel, fox, and other wild animals that she cared for during her life. Carol is preceded in death by her siblings, Jimmy Wood, Bonnie McDonald, Jerry Wood, David Wood, and Billy Williams.

Carol’s survivors include her husband: Al Wright of Macon, MS; a daughter: Gina Lahman of Columbus, MS: a son, Chris (Kim) Wright of Carthage, MS: a sister, Debbie Delk of Millport, AL and a brother: Russell Whary of Chattanooga, TN.
