Ruby Graves Hummer

Ruby Graves Hummer was born in Bijou Hills, South Dakota, January 23, 1921 to Earl and Mable Lloyd Graves. She married Glenn Edwin Hummer, Jr. in Sioux City, Iowa on July 12, 1941, while he was working with George A. Hummer & Sons in the family bee business. She and Glenn made their home at Prairie Point, MS and continued the family farming and bee industry business.

She was employed at the ASCS Office in Macon, and was a bookkeeper for Southland Motor Company and Piggly Wiggly Grocery until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Hummer, Jr.; her son, Glenn E. Hummer, III, and her great granddaughter, Maisy Hummer.
She is survived by her son Leigh Lloyd Hummer and wife Nancy; daughter Janet Hummer Graham and husband Bryan; and grandchildren: Bart and Coral Hummer and daughter Sofia of Wauwatosa, WI; Drew and Andrea Hummer of Huntsville, AL and daughter Anna Beth; Wade and Melissa Hummer of Rogers, AR; Courtney and Thorsten Oelschlaeger of Tuscaloosa, AL; Caitlin and Andrew Telle, Al of Birmingham, AL; Paula Kaye Hummer of Brandon, MS; and daughter- in-law, Kaye Hummer of Macon.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Ruth Graves Ellis, and her brothers: Lloyd, Willard, Irwin, Miles, Gale, and Glenn. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Slocumb Hummer, Carrollton, TX; her brother, Belvin Gillings, Platte, SD; and special nieces Mrs. Ardyce McManus of Pukwana, South Dakota, and Mrs. Lynda Richardson of Anoka, Minnesota. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A private burial service was held January 6th at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held January 13 at 11 a.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Serving as Pall Bearers were Dr. Glenn Peters, Wade Hummer, Drew Hummer, Andrew Telle, Thorsten Oelschlaeger and Bill Jones. Honorary Pall Bearers were Bart Hummer, Jim Woodson, Eddie Carter, Chuck Hummer and Randy Jackson.
