Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Kinard, 85, of Macon, MS passed away Saturday March 2, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Memphis, TN to the late Phinnis Earl and Ada Inez Sanders Ray. She graduated high school in Memphis and soon became a cosmetologist, a job that she enjoyed all her working life until she retired. On August 18, 1945, the former Dorothy Ray married Roy Kinard, who preceded her in death. Together they lived most of their lives in the Macon, MS area. Mrs. Dot was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Macon. She taught children’s Sunday school and also sang in the choir while she attended Elon Baptist Church . She was a very caring and loving person who was not afraid to give generously and unselfishly of her time and talents to help someone in need. Mrs. Dot was a very gifted person. In addition to be a wonderful cook, she was also adept in sewing and gardening. Her family said that “she was able to fix anything” since she was talented even in wood-working. She enjoyed drawing and painting in her quiet time, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. She was very devoted to all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved them all equally and unconditionally.
She is survived by two daughters: Lynn Moore and husband Gene of Macon, MS. and Mary Royce White and husband Scott of Louisville; two sons, Danny Kinard and wife Margie of Louisville, MS and Larry Kinard and wife Ethel of Macon, MS.; ten grandchildren, Angie Disbrow, Beth Clark, Stuart Kinard, Melissa Bush, Julie Johns, Mary Lynn McDonald, Catherine Williams, Cynthia Dawkins, Crystal Richardson, and Adam White; 25 great-grandchildren; and two step-sisters: Evelyn R. Austin of Kingswood, TX and Wanda Heaston of Red Bank, MS.
Mrs. Dot Kinard’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Macon with Father Mike O’Brien and Father Lenin Vargas officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. Visitation for friends and family will be Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 209 North West Street Macon, MS 39341 or to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Tribute Program 502 St Jude Place Memphis TN 38105-1942.
Active pallbearers will be Stuart Kinard, Adam White, Mike Disbrow, Billy Williams, Michael Dawkins, Heath Bush, Joey Johns, & Allen McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Richardson, Will Disbrow, Preston Dawkins, William Dawkins, Nick Dawkins, Brandon Watkins, Blake Williamson, Gary Kinard, Dr. Larry Morris, Dr. Naim Rahman, Staff of Noxubee Nursing Home, and Staff of Quality Hospice.
