Mr. J.D. Pugh, Sr. of Brooksville, MS passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS at the age of 80. His service will be held Sunday, April 15, from Brooksville Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Danny Avery officiating. Interment will follow in Brooksville Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home. Any memorials may be made to Brooksville Baptist Church P.O. Box 52 Brooksville, MS 39739.
Mr. Pugh, the son of Jack Jolly and Ruby Jackson Pugh, was born on July 8, 1931 in Burnside, MS. He moved to Brooksville, MS in 1933. He attended his sophomore and junior years of high school at Marion Military Institute at Marion Alabama and then graduated from Brooksville High School. He married the former Carolyn Haggard on June 9, 1950 and together they moved to Memphis TN where he was employed by the Commercial Industrial Bank for four years. They then returned to Brooksville, MS where he was engaged in farming and continued to do so until his retirement. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Brooksville Baptist Church. He was a Hamasa Shriner. He and his wife were married for 61 years and was totally devoted to his wife and family. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Carolyn Pugh of Brooksville, MS; daughter Dinah Rauenhorst of Sumrall, Ms, 2 sons, Don Pugh of Columbus, MS and Rusty Pugh of Tupelo, MS; 3 sisters, Mary Ann Moses of Orlando, Fla., Ruby Katherine Moran of Orlando, Fla. and Joyce Nolen of Edina, Minnesota and brother Redford Pugh of El Paso, TX. He has 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jack and Glen Pugh.
